Very few girls from the rural communities of the Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains have the opportunity to continue their education beyond primary school. Secondary schools, located several miles away in larger towns, are not accessible to them for two main reasons:
- Their parents cannot afford housing that is in closer proximity to secondary schools.
- Their parents do not have the confidence in existing facilities near colleges to entrust their daughters to be away from home.
Education For All (EFA), a Moroccan NGO, helps provide girls from rural Moroccan communities the opportunity to attend secondary school. EFA’s first project dates back to 2007. The project facilitated access to secondary education for up to 36 girls from the remote villages of the High Atlas Mountains by building a boarding house for them in the town of Asni.
